Oral injuries are more common than you may think. They occur when babies are learning to walk, kids are trying dangerous tricks, and athletes play sports. The first thing you can do is wear a mouth guard while active. This can reduce your chance of injury almost forty times over. You’ll especially want to wear a guard when you participate in sports like basketball, soccer, football, rugby, and other high-contact sports.

It’s also helpful to wear a face mask while you play sports like baseball, softball, or hockey. This helps you prevent oral and facial trauma while pitching, catching, or skating. That way when you get hit on the face with the ball or the puck comes soaring toward you, your smile and face will be protected.

Finally, wear a helmet with a face or mouth guard. Not only will this protect your smile and your face, but it will also help your head. This means you can avoid oral and facial injury as well as concussions or other severe head injuries.
