Your smile and oral health are important to your dentist, Dr. Scott Healey, and our dental team, which is why we encourage you to watch out for the many dental issues in the world today.

One of the dental issues we recommend preventing is enamel erosion. Enamel erosion in Lindon, Utah, is a common dental issue that occurs when the acid in the products you consume wear away your tooth enamel. This usually results in many more painful and irritating dental issues, like tooth sensitivity and tooth cracks.

To prevent this issue, we recommend doing the following things:

Eat acidic products with meals: It’s best to consume acidic products with meals instead of snacking on them throughout the day. This will reduce the amount of time the acid is in contact with your teeth and it will also help neutralize the harmful particles in your mouth.

Drink water: When you eat or drink an acidic product, it’s recommended to drink water along with it. This will help wash the acidic particles away.

Use a straw: If you must drink acidic drinks, then it’s best to use a straw while doing so. Using a straw will send the beverage past your teeth and down your throat. This will help reduce the amount of time the acid has contact with your chompers.

Say no to bubbles: Try to limit your consumption of carbonated drinks. You can swap them out with water, milk or tea.

Wait before brushing: Instead of immediately brushing your teeth after you’ve consumed an acidic food or drink, wait for 30 minutes. The acid in the products you consume tends to soften the tooth enamel. If you brush right after consuming them, it can damage your teeth. While you wait for the 30 minutes to pass, you can rinse with tap water.
